Standing Against Sin Is Love

  • Mt 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

The Lord has had this series on my heart for awhile. And as I was writing this article, I was saddened to hear of Canada’s “Conversion Therapy Ban”. The ban describes Biblical morality as a “myth” and as unloving. The carnal would have us believe that allowance of sin is loving when in fact God warns that sin chills love. A couple of two mild examples in current news of how accurate God’s Word is concerning abounding sin freezing love: one example is of two police officers ignoring a mall robbery in order that they may catch a “Snorlax” on their Pokemon Go. The other example is of a substitute teacher fired for not meowing to a middle school boy who identifies as a cat. And as anyone can attest there are thousands more extreme, heartrending examples that could be given. The evidence is too obvious to miss that abounding sin in modern culture is freezing love not increasing love.

Dear reader, many around you will make you feel so unloving for rejecting wickedness and for not fellowshipping with the ungodly. Do not listen to their deceptive arguments. Sin and love cannot abide together. The godly cannot yoke with the ungodly. (II Cor. 6:14-17) It is not loving to allow others to fall off the cliff of sin or to be burned on the stove of sin or to be killed from the poison of sin. (Rom. 6:23) Your family will pressure you to “love” by coming to a reunion and not speak up against other family members’ divorces, their smoking, their drinking, their immodesty, and their gossip. This lack of love in fact causes the belligerent to continue in their sins along with your blessings. Christians are wrongly expected to be silent while the carnal parade their filth leading many others away with them! Make no mistake this is not love. Your “friends” or coworkers will pressure you to “love” and participate in their laughing at dirty jokes, watching sinful movies, cuss, and have a “good time” in sin. The carnal will choke you (Mk. 4:19) to feel like you are so unloving and judgmental unless you willingly allow them to sin. All the while the carnal don’t use the same logic of love in the Christian’s defense.

Believers, remember these important truths of Scripture:

  • – “God is love.” (I Jn. 4:8, 16) Sin is the transgression of God’s law. (I Jn. 3:4) God and sin do not coexist. Therefore, to truly be loving, you must remove sin and “abide” with God. (I Jn. 3:6)
  •
  • – You do not love God or others if you do not obey God’s commandments. (Jn. 14:15, 21, 23, 15:10; I Jn. 5:3) Sin is the transgression of God’s law. (I Jn. 3:4) Therefore, to truly be loving, you must avoid even all appearance of sin (I Thess. 5:22) and obey all of God’s Word.
  •
  • – To be recognized as a disciple of Jesus, you must love one another, correct? (Jn. 13:35) Since love decreases when sin increases (our text – Mt. 24:12) and since true love is obeying God’s commands (previous point), to be recognized as a true disciple of Jesus, you must love one another truly which requires you to call out overtaking faults (Gal. 6:1; Jms. 5:19) and to eschew evil and do good (I Pt. 3:11).
