Saved Forever

  • I John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

I John 5:13 mentions that God had John write the book of I John to “you that believe on the name of the Son of God.” Did you ask Jesus to save you? Are you a believer of Jesus Christ? If you are, I John is written to you. Why? Our text, verse 13, mentions two reasons:

#1 – “…that ye may know that ye have eternal life…” God wants you to be confident in your eternal life. The moment you got saved, you became a child of God; a permanent member of God’s family. You will sin, but that sin was already paid for at Calvary and you will still be saved. Do not fear for your soul. You have “eternal life.” God through John wanted you to know that fact.

#2 – “…and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” After you are saved, you must still live life upon a world full of sin, malice, hatred, and sorrows. No matter what happens, God wants you to stay encouraged and focused on Jesus. The same Jesus that saves and keeps your eternal soul is more than capable of saving and keeping your earthly life. Trials, heartaches, and temptations will come, but you must continue believing in Jesus’ love, power, provision, and protection. After salvation, you do not believe in Jesus to be saved again, but you do need to keep believing Jesus in order to experience Jesus’ peace, Jesus’ power, Jesus’ purity/holiness, and Jesus’ victory.
