Rejecting God's Counsel

  • Proverbs 1:25 “But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:”
  • vs. 30 “They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.”
  •

Sometimes I’ve counseled individuals who always did the opposite of what I counseled. 🙂 When I counsel, I give Scripture; specific passages of Scripture that deal with the specific issues at hand. My philosophy and opinions don’t matter. Only God’s counsel makes the difference. Yet, there are believers who always seem to reject God’s counsel. They will search for second opinions until they find the wisdom of men that pleases them. The result: they always make the wrong choices that have devastating consequences. (Pro. 14:12; 16:25)

In our text, Wisdom talks about this kind of person who rejects God’s counsel. Psalm 107:11 calls this rebelling against God’s Word.

  • Psalm 107:11 “Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:”
  •

None of us like to think of ourselves as a Pharisee, but rejecting God’s counsel proceeding from God’s Word is exactly what the Pharisees did.

  • Luke 7:30 “But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.”

When the Word (Christ) of God and the Wisdom of God speaks, don’t rebel and don’t reject His counsel. Heed His perfect counsel, and do His will.
