Lower Learning

  • II Peter 3:5 “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:”
  •
  • Romans 1:21 “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
  • 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,”
  •
  • Psalm 19:7 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”

My elementary years were spent like most children in a public school. My family was not religious and did not go to church. Year after year I excelled in my education at the top of my class with straight A’s. I participated in science club, math club… you name it, and we won many competitions. In my teen years, though, my mother wanted to keep me away from the gangs of high school so she enrolled me in private education. More specifically, I attended “Christian school”. What a surprise to me then to learn that with my 8th grade public education I only scored at 4th grade level in my Christian school entrance exams!

Despite all of the billions of tax dollars poured into America’s public schools, 1 in 4 who graduate high school can’t even read their own high school diploma. This is one of the many reasons why there is constant bickering and disagreements over the state of our public schools during election years. And this has been going on for decades.  Dear reader, America’s public school system is not “higher learning,” but rather, “lower learning.” Actually, this decreased learning has been going on since Madalyn Murray O’Hair was able to get prayer, Bible reading, and God kicked out of our public schools in 1963. Since then, test scores and public education have plummeted. Why has this happened? Does God really make the difference in your child’s education? Yes.

In the first text, II Peter 3:5, God reveals that unsaved man is willingly ignorant of God’s creation of the universe and the worldwide flood of Noah’s day. As one preacher put it, “They are dumb (ignorant) on purpose (willingly).” Our public education would rather push the unsupported theories and fantasies of the Big Bang and evolution. In our second text, Romans 1:21-22, we learn that because unsaved man has purposely pushed God out of their lives and education, their professed wisdom is actually foolishness. “They became fools.” In other words, it is impossible to be smart and wise without God. You cannot kick the Highest Intelligence (God) out of your education and become intelligent yourself. It will not happen.

Despite all of this, though, there are many Christian parents who send their children to public school every day. Oh, dear reader, don’t you see, public education may be the accepted education of the day, but it definitely is not the best education your children can receive. Your children actually learn less in public school. Public school text books are being filled and filthied more and more with alternative lifestyles, evolution, and even Hollywood’s latest immoral act. That is not the education your child needs. Such garbage will surely make them a child of the devil and the world, not of God.

No. The best education for your child is a Christian education centered on God’s Word. In our third text, Psalm 19:7, we read that the Bible makes “wise the simple.” Dear parent, your children and teens are “simple ones”. The only way to make them truly wise is not by making them “worldly wise” but by getting them into God’s Word with a Christian education.
