Indoctrination

  • Proverbs 7:7 “And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,”
  • Proverbs 14:15 “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”

When I was young, my family did not go to church. Yet, my parents taught their children that there was one God and His only begotten Son was Jesus Christ. We were not saved, but my two brothers and I had some foundational doctrine. Once in public school, my Catholic friend, John, and I were given a science test along with the rest of the class. John and I, by the way, were at the top of our class. One of the questions was on the Big Bang theory. John and I answered that we did not believe in an explosion that created everything. We believed God created the universe. Despite our correct answers to all the other questions, we both received an “F” for that test. Shocking as this may seem, this example is one of thousands in public education today. Make no mistake. Children are not being instructed today in public school. They are being indoctrinated.

A number of years ago I read a statistic how that 84% of children from Christian homes that attend public high school and public college deny their faith and reject God by the time they graduate. I apologize for not remembering where I received this statistic, but I believe every honest Christian would agree that the devil and the world are trying to steal our children’s hearts and minds from God. The sad truth, though, is that many Christian parents still send their children to public school.

The reasons that Christian parents give for sending their children to public school are many. “We don’t have the money for Christian school.” “We don’t have the time or experience for home school.” “God says that believers are to be the salt of the earth so we send our children into the world to be that salt of the earth.” All of these reasons seem like valid points. However, each of these reasons are overruled when we realize that children and teenagers are “simple ones”. As wise Solomon was inspired to write in our first text, Proverbs 7:7, the youth are still “simple ones” “void of understanding”. How many times do you hear a parent say about their teen, “They think they know everything, but they don’t. They act like they know more than their mother and father, but they don’t.”? God reveals in our second text, Proverbs 14:15, that this simplicity can cause your children and teens to believe every word. This is why kids can be led to believe in characters of fantasy like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. This is why teens can get caught up in the wrong crowd and ruin their lives. They are still simple.

Now with all of that in mind, why would any God-fearing Christian dare place their “simple ones” under atheistic teaching that denies God’s existence and Jesus’ salvation for hours-on-end five days-a-week for 13-14 years plus college education?! Wow! Friends, every believer should be shocked to think that any believer would place their innocent, simple child into an environment that knowingly rejects God without the protection of their parents, and more than that, with the endorsement of their parents! To know that you have willingly placed your child under teaching that undermines everything you and your church teaches them about God, prayer, eternity, the Bible, salvation, and Jesus is (and I mean to only be loving but truthful) insane and suicidal. (By the way, I emphasize that we include public preschool, public elementary school, public high school, and secular college in all of these warnings. All of these statements apply to any form or level of public education.) Your child has little right to challenge their teachers’ false teachings. Many materials taught in public school are even purposely being withheld from parents. Immorality like sodomy, abortion, and ‘safe sex education’ are presented as normal instruction throughout the course of the school day. Honestly, dear reader, there is not enough time and space to emphasize why placing your child in public school is an eternally terrible choice. For the sake of your child’s precious soul, tender heart, and simple mind, absolutely do not place your children into public school. Parent, your child is “the simple” of Proverbs 14:15. You are supposed to be “the prudent man” that should be looking well to the future of your child and foreseeing the evil of a public education. Don’t allow it for any reason.
