Media Counselors
- Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
- Proverbs 19:27 “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.”
- Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
What is commonly known as “media” today? Television, internet, music, video games, news, magazines, books, movies, cartoons, search engines, cell phones, etc… are all media. Media is the plural of medium. As an example, you may be familiar with those who are called spirit mediums (which the Bible is against I. E. King Saul in I Samuel 28). They present themselves as the go-between from the spirit world to the physical world and vice versa. Media is the go-between of communication and information from the world to us and vice versa.
Since media is a medium of information and communication to us, media is much more than entertainment. Media is influence. Media is counsel. As we read from Prov. 4:23, anything that comes into our heart issues out through our life. In other words, we live our media. For this reason, God commands us in Prov. 19:27, our text, to cease listening to instruction (I.E. media) that causes us to err from His words of knowledge.
Media affects your life. Media affects your heart. Media affects your marriage. Media affects your kids. Media affects your teens. Media affects your parenting. Media affects your home. Media also affects the church. Even if you are like most people and do not intentionally seek out counsel for your life or home (which you should!), you are still subconsciously affected by the media in your life.
Contrary to popular opinion today, video games and the internet and television, and cell phones, etc… impact our lives. You are what you eat in media. Media is a channel of information and influence: good and bad information and influence. If you are interested in improving your life and your home for the glory of Christ, you are going to need to address this area of media. Make sure that only what is biblical and Christ-honoring enters your heart and your home.
