The Guide to Wealth

  • Proverbs 3:13 “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
  • 16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

After preaching through a series on money at a church, a husband excitedly came to me afterwards and exclaimed that I was saying everything David Ramsey talks about during his financial radio broadcasts. The man added that he hadn’t realized how much the Bible dealt with finances.

Some Christians are tempted to think that the Bible cannot address every issue in their life. Financial planning is believed to be one of those missing subjects in the Bible. Believers who think this way often go elsewhere for advice. However, our text, Proverbs 3, points out that wisdom’s left hand contains riches. So, in order to get “riches” (money), one would need to first get wisdom. And where can we find wisdom? Proverbs would be a great place to start! God even starts the book of Proverbs by telling the reader in Proverbs chapter 1 why Proverbs was written. The first is in vs. 2, “To know wisdom….” Psalm 19:7 also states that God’s Word makes “wise the simple.” Simply put, if you want to know how to earn money, how to handle money, and how to save money, you need to get into God’s Word where God’s wisdom abounds. True, you may find advice outside of God’s Word, but true wisdom must and will line up exactly with God’s Word.
