The Giver of Wealth

Ecclesiastes 5:18 “Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.” vs. 19 “Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.”

Have you ever heard someone complain about a message on giving? “There that preacher goes again. He’s trying to take my money. I have worked hard for this money. This is my hard-earned cash.” No wonder those people get so upset about money. They have a wrong view of where money originates!

Your money comes from God. Your money is a “gift of God.” (Vs. 19) If someone boasts that they have earned it, you need to see the phrases: “which God giveth him,” (Vs. 18) “whom God hath given riches and wealth,” (Vs. 19) “hath given him power to eat thereof.” (Vs. 19)

God is so gracious to provide for all your needs and even some of your wants. God, as these verses reveal, even grants you the privilege “to enjoy the good of all his labour.” God gave you the job you have. God grants you the strength and health to work. And God even lets you enjoy the fruit of your labors. The Giver of wealth, friends, is not you. His name is God.

In Deuteronomy 8:11-18, God warned His chosen people Israel. If Israel began to forsake God’s commandments, they would get proud. They would boast that everything they had came through their might. During these end times, as nations and churches get further from God’s Word, this is the very attitude they are taking. Friends, let us not forget what God commanded Israel:

Deut. 8:18 “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth….” The Giver of all wealth is God.
