False Counsellors

  • Jeremiah 23:21 “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
  • 22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”

Just as in Jeremiah’s day, there are false prophets today. And one of the clues that reveal false prophets is revealed in their counsel. God affirmed here in Jer. 23:22 that if false prophets would just stand in God’s counsel, God’s people “should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.” To counsel God’s people with false doctrine or with human opinions or with vain philosophies or with man’s wisdom is to cause God’s people to err. And many are the preachers doing that today. We need real preachers truly sent from God who counsel God’s people directly from God’s Word with specific verses from God’s Word dealing specifically with the issues of life. We need true preachers who back up their counsel with God’s Word and only God’s Word. As God questioned here in Jer. 23:

  • Jer. 23:18 “For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?”
