"Fail of the Grace of God"

  • Hebrews 12:15 “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”
  •

Believers are to diligently and regularly search for roots of sin in our life. Roots grow under the surface, and therefore, are not obvious until it is too late. Roots of sin cause us to “fail of the grace of God.” Our access to the source of our Life and Light is cut off by sin. The enabling, emboldening, enlightening, empowering Grace of God is crucial to a believer’s existence. Without it, we become just like the lifeless world around us. Actually, the word for “fail” in this verse is the same word for “come short” in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Praise the Lord, no believer loses their salvation. Positionally, you are forever in Christ. However, practically, your life will appear as if you were another lost soul when you choose sin over grace. This is why so many so-called Christians seem as if they have never been saved. They have “come short of the glory of God”/”failed of the grace of God”. Believers can only live by the grace of God and appear in the glory of Christ through the Spirit of Grace.

  • II Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

There is no fooling reality. If you are to daily appear as your Savior to those around you, you must abide in the Vine of the Spirit of grace. Hold onto your sin and you fall short of God’s glory and fail of God’s grace.
