Don't Move!

  • Proverbs 24:21 “My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:”
  •
  • I Cor. 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Don’t Move!” yelled my mom at my younger brother and me. My little brother and I did not know why Mommy was screaming at us. I was 5. My brother was 3. Our family had just carved out a property in the middle of nowhere near the Okefenokee swamps of Florida. My father had started his own cleaning business, and wanted the house of his dreams away from others. So he paid for trees to be cut and removed, a humongous fire pit dug to burn trash, dirt roads carved out, etc… I have many exciting, dangerous stories from those few years! 🙂 As one can imagine, that area of Florida is dangerous with poisonous snakes, alligators, etc…. Well, that is exactly why our mother was commanding us, “Don’t Move!” My brother and I hadn’t seen nor heard the rattlesnake right in front of us as we played! Thankfully, our mother had instilled in us immediate, complete obedience, and we did just what she told us without question. Mom then quietly grabbed a shovel, slowly took a wide path behind the snake, and quickly snapped the head off the rattler. Our instant obedience to “Don’t Move” saved our lives!

Brethren, don’t move! “That old serpent, called the Devil” (Rev. 12:9; 20:2) is subtly waiting with poisonous fangs to destroys us, and we are becoming infected with death! Why? Because some of us are moving and changing! Weekly we are fluctuating with the winds of this fickle world. Dear Preachers, we are sent and gifted by God (Eph. 4:11) to stop that very thing from happening (Eph. 4:14 “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…whereby they lie in wait to deceive”)! Some are moving to appease your members. Some are moving in order to get new visitors. Some are moving to obey leftist liberals in leadership even if it means disobeying God. I have honestly never seen so much movement and change at a given time in my life! Brethren, please, I love you, I want to help you! Calm yourself. Don’t change doctrine.

  • Ps. 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
  • 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
  • 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
  • 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Obviously, much more could be said on this subject but let me end with an illustration I gave a pastor friend of mine recently. A father and his son were in great straits and needed money quickly. So, they decided to sell their only horse. On the way to market, the father and son were walking beside their horse when they passed some people who commented, “How come that father and son are walking instead of riding such a healthy horse? One of them at least should ride it.” So they did. The father walked beside the horse while the son rode it. Then they passed people who scolded the son for making his father walk while the son lazily rode. So the two switched places. Then they passed people who scolded the selfish father for making his son walk while he rode. So the father and son both rode the horse at the same time. Then the two passed more people who criticized the pair for riding such a decrepit looking horse. The passersby suggested the horse should be carried by the father and son. So they carried it. By and by, the father and son came to a steep, wobbly bridge over a rushing river. As they carried the horse over the bridge, the horse became skittish and impossible to hold any longer and fell over the railings into the torrents below. Lesson: Stop changing and moving to please others whether they be your family, friends, church members, or potential visitors. Stop allowing unsaved, filthy bureaucrats to determine how Christ’s church and Christ’s children should live.

P.S. – For parents, do your children stop on a dime like my brother and I did for our mother? It is a life and death matter. The snake is looking to poison your children, yet many of you make continual excuses for their disobedience. If my parents who did not go to church nor read the Bible could teach two unsaved boys to instantly obey, saved parents empowered by the Spirit of Christ and instructed by the Scriptures of Christ can surely train up their children in the way they should go! (Pro. 22:6) 🙂
