Because of Grace

  • Titus 2:11-12 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”
  •
  • Romans 6:1-2 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
  • God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
  •

Despite what it has cost me (family relationships, health, money, meetings, popularity, etc…), I still stand in love against sin for truth. Why? Because of God’s grace. This confuses the modern, worldly church. I frequently preach on grace, Spirit-fulness, and the Christ-life. Most love these messages on God’s grace…until I preach against sin. Many miss that grace includes preaching against sin.

Do you see from our text how “the grace of God” not only “bringeth salvation…to all men,” but is also “teaching us.” In “Standing in Grace”, we noticed how “the grace of God” is an impartation of God. But how do we access and use the eternality of God? Well, God Himself came down in human form as Jesus Christ and lives in each believer as the Holy Spirit. “The Spirit of grace” (Zech. 12:10; Heb. 10:29) is a person; the third Person of the Godhead! And God’s Spirit dwells in each believer “teaching us” important lessons of grace.

One of the Spirit of grace’s lessons to each believer is “denying ungodliness and worldly lusts.” This kind of teaching necessitates specifics and personalization. And God calls on believers to be the human voice to preach against sin; specific sin; our sins.

  • Isaiah 58:1 “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.”
  •

So, whether modern believers like it or not, we all are taught by God’s Spirit of grace to call out sin and stand against sin. This is another reason why I still stand in love against sin for truth no matter the cost… because of grace.
